Nathan goes into tomorrow's final round of the Honda Classic three shots behind leader, Camilo Villegas, but sharing second position with Vijay Singh.
Despite a bogey at his final hole of the day, Nathan put together an excellent three under par round of 67 and at 8 under he is well placed to challenge on day four of the event at the PGA National in West Palm Beach.
Nathan jumped out of the blocks early on day three when he birdied the first and second holes and even when he did make mistakes he was able to recover well, His short game has been in fine touch this week.
Nathan almost holed his approach at the opening hole then holed an 18 foot putt at the second. Superb tee shots at the par three 7th and 15th holes added two further birdies and at that point he was within one of Villegas.
At his final hole of the day Nathan recorded only his second bogey of the week when he pulled his third from the fairway trap at the par five and for one of the few occasions this week was unable to get up and down.
Nathan will play in the final pairing tomorrow with Villegas.
